Jane

Jane Cassidy was born unwanted by her own mother and unknown by her father. So her own grandmother, Grace, raised her. She had the same tragic ability to select husbands as her own mother. She married her first husband, James Matthew, as he was leaving to fight in WWII. He came home on break and she got pregnant with their first child, Patrick. He came home again a year later and she got pregnant with their second child, Candis. She discovered that during his visits he was an abusive man so when he called her to tell her he had completed his "tour" and was coming home for good, she said "Don't bother, we won't be here". Two weeks after his re enrollment for a third tour, he was killed in a plane crash. Family tempers were crazy. Henry's parents blamed Jane for their son's death. She had guilt and was in quite a pickle with two kids and no husband so what did she do..... She got married, of course, to Richard Arnold (The man cutting the cake with her). He had just got home from the war being in the Navy and didn't seem troubled by two kids. In 1959 they had their own daughter, Susan. They moved to Texas so Richard could pursue his career in textiles. He ultimately became the president of the denim company "Billy the Kid" which only made denim clothes for boys. Richard, Jane, Patrick, Candis, Susan and Helen all ended up in El Paso. By 1975 the marriage was over. Richard moved out of the house believing that Jane had less than 2 years to live with severe emphysema while still chain smoking. She hung on for 9, I think just to spite him.

It's neat that you are learning so much of your history......

OK..reading from recent posts backward, it took me a bit to figure out who Helen was! Family history is something...my own grandmother was a flapper in the 1920's, and left her son with her mother to raise, working her way along the railroad in Harvey House restaraunts on the way to California. such history!
