The Story Of Blankie

When Coco was born a good friend of mine sent me a handmade blanket with a purple satin boarder with a matching bear. Co loved that blanket, soft fleece and satin. During a family trip the blanket got left in a hotel in North Texas. So upon return home we grabbed a couch blanket that was dark blue with fringe. Well that was a tragically bad idea. The she would wrap the fringe around her and it was dangerous. So I ran to target and the only thing I could find that soft without fringe was this purple blanket. (See it behind David's head)

She loves that blanket. She only sucks her thumb when she has that blanket. She plays with it, she uses it as comfort. As she has grown, blankie has shrunk. It is a special honor if you find a blankie string that has been left for you.
One night last week we had a guest visitor and Nicole gave her the largest "part of" blankie and said "She can have it, I don't want to suck my thumb anymore. " My heart melted. But it is good to know my forethought: When I saw that my daughter had gotten attached to blankie, I returned to the store and bought 2 more. 1 is "backup" blankie and one is in her "hope" chest for one of her kids one day.

Oh the things that blankie has seen and didn't say a word.
Oh the reasons that blankie got washed and never complained.
Oh the times that blankie comforted her in the night.
Oh the light that blankie was for her in the dark.
Oh the times that blankie kept her warm.
Oh the adventures that blankie went on.
Oh the first day of school that blankie secretly attended just in case.
Oh the miles that blankie travelled to be by her side.
Oh the times that blankie listened to her dreams.
Oh the times that blankie met her needs.
Thank you blankie for loving my girl,
I will never throw you away -not for all the money in the world.
And one day God will give my daughter a husband, And my nickname for him will be "Blankie"

Ok, I remember the blanket. One day Co was sleeping in the naproom-it was rare but it did happen on occasion and she had her arms through that shredded blanket. A young floater teacher asked me "Ms. CeCe, do you think you should tell her mom that that could get around her neck and choke her?" I said, "Don't worry, mom knows." That girl LOVED that purple thing!! Or what was left of it.

Give me a break...about her poor husband. He will laugh you out of their house if you start that. I am sure that you will call much worse by you before they get married, so you sure don't want to call him "blankie". Maybe in your prayers of thanksgiving, God will know who you are talking about. Up until the last little statement, it was a great post.

What a great page, and the blankie story should be published. I loved it. My first grandson had his blankie for years, and his mom still has the strings.
