and I happened to notice a label on my attic ladder.
Okay... there are so many aspects that this edges on stupid it is scary.
First, would be the fact that they actually have to put INSTRUCTIONS on how to use a ladder. REALLY. "Lift left foot and place it on bottom step. Transfer weight to left foot and lift right foot and place it on next step. Continue until at desired height." They forgot to tell me to continue to breath normally while performing "climbing" maneuvers.
Second, do you notice the location of the instructions? BEHIND a step which happens to be at the top of the ladder. It is really small print that is difficult to read from the bottom of the ladder especially with a wooden step in front of it blocking the majority of the information. If this information was that important, I would have it ON the step at eye level in BIG letters!!! You have step 1 at eye level, then step 2 a few inches higher, etc. If you do the step right, then you get to see the next one.
Third, did the company set up a committee and pay a lawyer about these instructions and warnings? Maybe they had one of those focus groups where they put together a bunch of ladder climbers that sat down and hammered out the details and intricacies of how to get to the top without injury.
Fourth, what if you miss an step in the instructions? Do you have to go back down to the bottom of the ladder and start over again? What if you get to the top and can't remember how to get down, the instructions are upside down - you cannot read them from there - you'd be stuck in the attic until someone came out and talked ya down. Thank goodness they have the diagrams over to the right in case I need a crash course in UP.
Why can't I get paid to write instructions for stupid people? I would be good at it. I could write groundbreaking stuff... "Don't place match in mouth when it is on fire." "Brush teeth with furry end of tooth brush." "When checking account balance is =/> $0 do not use this ATM card.". I really think TX DPS should put me in charge of teaching people how to drive!
