Top Ten reasons I decided NOT to watch the Olympics this year.
1. Sending a bunch of professional, showboating, multimillion airs to play basketball, tennis and every other sport doesn't seem like it is in the "spirit" of the games! (Don't give me the ... all the other countries are doing it... excuse either because If all the other countries decided to jump off a bridge should we do it too? and being a superpower, I sure we could find high school kids that could kick these peoples plump round bahookas.) Can you name 2 people on the USA basketball team? Can you name 2 people on the USA baseball team? The only reason baseball doesn't send the pros is because they are in the wild card hunt during this time of year and none of the pros want to go! BTW one of the baseball players last name is Fowler.
2. I cringe at the number of Olympic metals that will have to be returned because of drugs - They have already found 3 positives.
3. Why isn't golf an Olympic sport... Ping pong , Oh I am sorry, TAble Tennis and trampoline are but golf isn't?
4. Really, how seriously can you take Kayaking?
5. China is Fake - the little girl singer was fake, the fireworks were fake, their gymnast ages are fake and the whole thing is now a PRODUCTION not a competition.
6. $ - People got scammed out of thousands of dollars on tickets the the Chinese government wont "honor", the whole drive behind the olympics is now $$$$$
7. The games are so boring that the front page sports news story is "What is that black stuff? The mysterious covering on U.S. volleyball star Kerri Walsh's shoulder is a hot topic." There is no struggling story, no tragedy besides the volleyball family attack which was very suspicious to me.
8. Phelps is an amazing swimmer, but is he being targeted by terrorist groups? Do you remember Spitz is a Jew and a terrorist group named Black September had kidnapped and murdered israeli olympic team member and were trying to get to Mark??? That adds a whole new level of difficulty when you think about it. Also ... .Did you know they didn't INVITE Spitz to the olympics this year???? Spitz felt snubbed about not being asked to attend the 2008 Olympics to watch Michel Phelps attempt to break his record of 7 gold medals. In the article, he is quoted as saying, "I never got invited. You don't go to the Olympics just to say, I am going to go. Especially because of who I am....I am going to sit there and watch Michael Phelps break my record anonymously? That's almost demeaning to me. It is not almost—it is." I don't care who you are.. That is just RUDE! And the USA swim coach's reply??? “His time is gone,” U.S. swimming assistant coach Jon Urbanchek told the Baltimore Sun. “I’m sure he can afford a ticket if he wants to be here. It would have been nice for him to be here and witness it. I really feel he contributed a lot to swimming. But it’s time to turn the reins over to somebody else. You’ve got to move on with life. Get a life after swimming.” BTW... with Phelps 6 gold metals... he currently gets $1 million from his sponsor.
9. The IOC are morons. Two examples
A) The International Olympic Committee has slated softball for elimination after Beijing as part of what it calls a necessary paring down of the number of games in the Games. Couldn't be because of the USA's complete and total domination in the sport, even though 160 nations have softball BUT I bet table tennis survives.
B) A Swedish wrestler who dropped his bronze medal in disgust could face sanctions from the International Olympic Committee.
10) When I was growing up and watching the olympics, something would well up inside me when I would see the USA flag high above, hear the national anthem playing and see the tears streaming down the young faces of the athletes. It's like they don't care. They might as well yell out "I'm going to Disneyland" instead of playing the national anthem.

Hey, Tracy!
It's been a while since I got to experience one of your raves! Don't you love blogging! We are in Florida now. Vacation central. Check out my blog too. www.womenintheword.wordpress.com I get a lot of traffic from unbelievers and I know how you like to put your two cents in. I could use the support during one of our discussions. I have a tendencey to blog about controversial issues. Can you imagine? -Nancy Branson
are you sure you don't have an opinion?? ;)
wooooo...you go girl!!! I agree with you. I remember very clearly how Mary Lou Retten fought to get the gold, and how she was so overwhelmed by her national anthem being played she cried!!! I watched some online and was a little irritated by it all. Wish we had some good old fashion american pride blazing through instead of arrogance and show boating!!!!!
I am with you on the Olympics. I just think there is better things to spend your HOURS and days on...
Oh, by the way, Nancy could really use our Christian "sista" help on her blog. She is getting slammed DAILY by two jerks in particular. I am resisting telling them off myself because I know it would not be Christlike but oh....they make me mad!
